12 Month ‘Smile’stone/ Cake Smash

This session is both the most fun and challenging session of the whole year! Many a loving parent has been surprised at how their baby responded during this session, but keep in mind that this is not an every day event! Whether we smash cake, or baby eats fruit,

  1. Please use this link to style your session along with your access code: https://styleandselect.com/start-styling/

  2. If the session is outdoors, consider footwear that can stand up to elements and weather. We may go through some tall grass, I almost always get bit by something even with jeans and long socks on. Do your best to protect yourself from outside. There may be a good amount of walking so think comfortable too!

  3. Please bring nose wipes and/ or burp cloths for baby.

  4. Please reschedule your session if anyone at the session has had a fever in the last 24 hours, or been vaccinated in the last 24-48 hours. I work with children, birthing mothers, and have babies of my own. I can not risk exposing anyone to bugs where it can be avoided. Also, most children have some sort of struggle of feeling a little bit icky after shots since their immune system is doing its thing. The last thing we want is miserable photos! So I am happy to be flexible and reschedule your session if need be.

  5. Go with the flow! We will have so much fun at this session and there will be so much love! Go with the intention of creating memories and enjoying your baby. That’s what I want to capture!

  6. Plan to be in the session for roughly 1-2 hours. We don’t always need this much time, but babies sometimes need that extra patience so I always plan for it.

  7. Bring items with a story in them. If you have some special heirloom or gift that was given to baby that we can incorporate into your session, let’s do that! I am here to capture your story, and things like that can really add depth to the story, and they can be really special to you.

  8. With Cake Smashes, keep it simple. Make sure your cake has creamy icing, NOT fondant. If you are homemaking your cake, PLEASE DO A TRIAL RUN of the recipe before the official session. I say this from personal experience. I shot my daughter’s cake smash and wanted to be super healthy so I made her cake using a recipe and materials I was totally unfamiliar with. The poor child’s cake was like a rock and so was her bowel movements for about a week! Also, consider using fruits and yogurt or puddings for the “mess factor” without the health concerns that some parents have about cake and sugar. *AND PLEASE OH PLEASE! do not bring chocolate cake or icing (it looks like poop smeared on the baby’s face) nor green icing (boogers) nor red icing (blood). It sounds funny now, but you will thank me later!!

  9. BE PATIENT! If you have been bringing your child to me for previous ‘smile’stone sessions, you will most likely be surprised at the difference in your child at this one. They are mobile and starting to have more of their own opinions about where they should be and how they will sit and what they want to put in their mouth. Try not to have too many expectations on your child’s behavior and trust me to capture the shots we need. It’s going to be adorable!!

  10. Your ordering session will take place within 2 weeks of your session date in your home. It should take about an hour. We will sit down and look through the best images and I will help you choose which images to print and/ or put into albums.
